120 is unlikely to be a real requirement for me, though I wouldn't rule it out in future - but for the amount I'd likely do, I could rely on getting that done for me - otherwise, I'd be happy doing one-off single shot scans. I imagine I will want to do some real B&W at some point, too. Primarily I'm interested in scanning 35mm c41-process colour film, and c41-process B&W. In short, you're right, I think it does well enough for the casual snapper/scanner, but the enthusiast will want for more. Oh, and the other big minus for me was that the film holder would hold just 12 negs, making even a 24exp roll, a two stage process. I returned it and found a really good deal on a used V750 (which is really just a V700 with some extra bits - I dont' recommend seeking the V750 out unless you're REALLY picky). Thanks in advance I had the new Canoscan for about a week and it was acceptable but I found the tonal range and size of the output files a little lacking. It seems to offer a very good specification and gets mainly very good reviews, but as always, a lot of those will be from people that aren't as fussy as us 'enthusiasts' I'd be grateful for any opinions on this scanner, or recommendations for an alternative scanner in that general price range that would work well. Having researched a few scanner models, I've been looking closely at the Canon CanoScan 9000F Mark II, which is available in the UK for just under £160. Scan-to-DVD costs for 35mm film here in the UK seem to run around £5 per 36 exposure roll, or thereabouts, and I figure it might be more economical to buy a not-too-expensive scanner and do the job myself (an additional benefit being the ability to scan photos and other image documents when needed).

Having recently picked up a nice Canon 35mm film body and lens, and also dusted off a couple of my old 35mm compact cameras, I'm toying with the idea of investing in a film-capable scanner.
